CLMA Welcomes The Honourable Marc Miller

The Canadian Live Music Association (CLMA) congratulates the Honourable Marc Miller on his appointment as Minister of Canadian Culture and Identity and looks forward to working together to unlock the full economic and cultural potential of Canada’s live music industry.

Live music is a proven driver of tourism, business activity, Canadian identity, and job creation. The CLMA’s Hear and Now report confirms that live music in Canada contributes more than $10.9 billion to GDP, supports over 101,000 jobs, and generates more than $3 billion in tax revenues each year. At the heart of this impact are Canadian artists — the storytellers and innovators who fuel demand and inspire audiences everywhere.

“Live music is one of Canada’s strongest growth opportunities,” said Erin Benjamin, President & CEO of the Canadian Live Music Association. “With smart, modern policy, we can strengthen the touring infrastructure that allows artists to thrive, support local businesses in every region, and ensure more fans — from right here at home and around the world — have access to unforgettable live music experiences in their own communities. This is good for artists, it’s good for audiences, and it’s good for the Canadian economy.”

That work starts with immediate focus on the parts of the ecosystem most at risk today: small and mid-size venues, festivals, and others on whom artists rely to launch and build sustainable careers. Policy modernization will stabilize and strengthen this backbone — directly improving artist incomes and touring opportunities, unlocking new audiences, and ensuring more Canadian music is performed and discovered. The CLMA looks forward to working closely with Minister Miller to achieve these outcomes, and more, to help ensure Canadians and their communities are fully benefiting from the power and potential of live music.

“A strong live music sector supports a more competitive, cohesive, and resilient Canada — economically, socially, and culturally,” added Benjamin.
